It is my first Orange contract and my experience was very positive. I put in the sim and the phone started up straight away.

Going through the setup process was very easy and impressive with the amount of control is afforded the user.I was not ready for the quality of the display. I had heard it is good but seeing it in living colour was an experience on its own.

I was gutted that the signal strength was wavering on 2 bars and am worried that this might force its return. I am a bed-bound paraplegic with poor eyesight and was excited to find that there are extensive font options. User Selectable Fonts should be the standard of all phone makers. If RIM can do it why not all the others.

I found the keyboard easy to get to grips with and there is ample spacing of the keys.

The camera is reasonable and surprised me how well the pictures came out. Built in flash is a must and is provided. Video Recording is easy and reasonable.

Next I wanted to check out the GPS and maps but there was no icon. The GPS failed to find any satellites and the maps were missing although the sofware was supposed to be loaded. I am informed that there is a software update on the way to correct this.

I also liked the feature to set times when the phone was on or off. I found the browser to be tiny and wonder how long it will be before reducing mobile phone sizes will have a negative effect on our young peoples eyes. In any case it was too small for me to see and use. It is a pity the Font setup does not include all fonts including menu's and browser.

Each Blackberry has a unique PIN number and this can be user to send sms and email without going through the email system.

I was surprised when Edge was not listed as a connectivity option. Mine only lists 2G & 3G. So in all mine leaves a few problems but I love the Blackberry Bold and would only return it to Orange to get another one on a network with better coverage for me.

Whilst I am not sure if the Fonts are user selectable there is a definite attempt to help the user with the option to rotate the font from upright to horizontal. The text automatically reformats and enlarges to allow more text to be displayed. You can even tilt the phone diagonally for an even better solution. I think there is a zoom feature too.

Visit YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TENrXdp3-U8

As for written text I will endeavour to report more later.

I am talking about the Blackberry range of mobile phones. All models come with User Selectable Fonts which means if RIM can do it why can't ALL the makers do it as standard. The fonts are also included in the specifications.

Here you can see all the Blackberry range and also compare them.

http://eu.blackberry.com/eng/devices/compare/product-attr-compare.jsp?products=623&products=583&products=483&products=403&products=563&

This is a business solution mobile with the emphasis on email. The keyboard is Qwerty and 20 day standby time on the battery and extended batteried are available.

  Comments

Introduction to Mobile-Fonts Blog

I am writing this new Blog to help those having problems like myself. As Mobile Phones get smaller and more compact no one is questioning the reducing size of text availbe in our phones.

I feel there is a growing danger to our eyesight as more people struggle with available setting because they like the phone. The easy answer would be to make it compulsory that the system used is User Selectable Fonts and Point size. They don't even add font information in the specifications.

There is a great deal of need for the individual font information. I hope you will add it so the Blog can become a reference source.

I am fed up of searching for a mobile phone with the right font size for my needs. I see many forum requests for the same information. Which mobile phone has fonts that are adjustable by the user? Which mobile phone will suit my parents as they have poor eyesight?

The answer usually banded about is to go to a shop and find one that suits, but older people are embarassed by new technology.

So this Blog is for them. I want readers to post information about their mobile phones. I would like this information reported.

Make and Model i.e. Samsung Soul SGH-u900
Font description. Is the font adjustable.
What are settings available i.e. No adjustment or Normal Bold you get the idea.

As I am new to Blogging I am not sure if images can be posted or not. This is not a problem as I can make a website to post images, So please send any menu, sms, written or read text message examples to me at amberlodge1@aol.com. Thank you.
